The feminist exhibition & art collective founded by Eliza Hatch & Bee Illustrates
Hysterical is an annual group art exhibition and series of events founded by Eliza Hatch and Bee Illustrates, which platforms artists using their voices for change and raises money for charity during Women's History Month.
Hysterical Collective was born from a frustration with the traditionally male-dominated art world, focusing on creating change in the creative industry by showcasing artwork from women and people of marginalised genders who explore current affairs, activism, feminism and social issues.
Following the success of the debut in 2022, Hysterical Collective began to showcase new groups of artists each year and a new theme. In 2023 Hysterical: A Celebration of Subversive Art, was described by the Evening Standard as ‘an intimate and cathartic exploration of misogyny.’
The 2024 edition, Hysterical: Radical Creativity, which celebrated the innovative and disruptive work of women and marginalised creatives was visited by over 500 people and covered by BBC Radio London, Freeda, Woo News, Getty Images, Huck, CASS Art, Evening Standard and South East Londoner.
In 2024, as well as curating the work of 13 artists and putting on three charity events, Eliza Hatch and Bee Illustrates debuted and created full scale bathroom installation at Hysterical: Radical Creativity. After collaborating as curators in previous years, Eliza and Bee combined forces to create a full scale bathroom in the exhibition itself, an interactive space and artwork for the public to engage with for two weeks in March 2024.
